New disability vehicles section released

Autospecs our parent company also operates japanesenewcars.com and has recently released an updated version of the web site and in doing so have added a section dedicated to new disability vehicles. This section covers all new and current disability vehicle models currently produced in Japan by the major manufacturers such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda etc and has detailed pictures and descriptions for those who are disabled, aged or mobility impaired or those who care for them they can see and understand the great concepts and designs available.

The disability vehicles being produced these days have evolved some what from a few years ago and come in numerous models and configurations such as self drive with hand controls, swivel front seat loaders, wheel chair lifts, wheel chair access ramps and detachable seats that double as actual wheel chairs. All these vehicles are also available in used condition.

With the ageing population in Japan (20% of the population in Japan is now 65 or older) the choices for disabled people wanting mobility have never been better.

2009 New Zealand 4 and Rotary Nationals

Last weekend in Auckland, New Zealand the annual 4 and Rotary Nationals were held with the show and shine at the Asb Showgrounds on Saturday and the Drags the next day at Meremere Dragway (45mins south of Auckland) Our car was entered into the show n shine on a trade stand for wheelsandheels.co.nz to bolster numbers as its a new site started. The stand ended up walking away with Best Club Display for 2009. If anyone is interested Speedhunters.com covered the event here a few pics of the R34 at the show and a few pics at one of my favourite photo locations. You'll notice its been de-spoilered the standard spoiler looked to small and made the car look like a box, we've had nothing but positive feed back since losing the spoiler. As in previous years Japaneseusedcars.com have been invited to attend the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon held in Makuharri Messe Chiba over 3 days from January 9th untill January 11th. We will be taking our media crew again this year to cover this fabulous event and look forward to bringing you coverage. With over 600 vehicles on display from Japan's top tuners, after-market parts manufacturers, custom shops, car manufacturers, automotive businesses as well as around 300 exhibitors this event has cemented itself as one of the leading auto extravaganzas in the world. This year the show will also include the Import Auto Salon which features imported tuned and customized cars in Japan. We have included a link to a video below filmed by our media crew at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon giving you an idea of what to expect. We have had this as our promo car for quite awhile and have finally got some pictures to post here. The Skyline started life as a very standard R34 and we have since fitted adjustable suspension, alloys and a Uras look body kit, it has a basic 2000cc neo 6 engine but will be getting developed with a RB26 engine at a later date. The car is based in New Zealand and attends events and shows promoting Japaneseusedcars.com. We were given a great deal on ocean freight through our good friends at Kiwi Car Carriers to ship the car to NZ and McCathies Customs agents assisted us with clearing the car through NZ customs and arranged compliance so it owes us very little as we were able to buy the car for an extremely good price through the auctions here in Japan.

Ex pat Kiwi Rhys Millen won the Redbull World Drift Championship event this weekend at Long Beach. Millen driving his Redbull sponsored Pontiac Solstice beat Japanese driver Daijiro Yoshihara to take the fiercely fought event. Completing the top three on the podium was Tanner Foust the 2007 & 2008 Formula D champion. Unfortunately none of the Japaneseusedcars.com sponsored competitors were on the podium this time round however Darren McNamara was beaten by eventual 3rd place finisher Foust.

The first day of the Red Bull Drifting World Championship has been one of the most exciting events yet! The level of talent is extraordinary with the top drivers in the world competing at this inaugural event. The drivers faced a very fast track and a couple of drivers were forced to withdraw. Red Bull driver Rhys Millen clocking in over 100 mph entry speeds set the bar high and took the 1st qualifying position, even after tapping the wall and straightening out on his 2nd qualifying run.

Japaneseusedcars.com have been members of the Driftworks forum for around 2 years and in March 2008 we introduced a Car Of The Day thread on the forum where we post up a car that is going through the Japanese Car Auctions on that particular day. To be eligible for the car of the day post the vehicle must either be a good spec, starting at a good price, looks the part or we think is worthy or interesting and most of all it must be suitable as a drift car.

Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship has 2 drivers enter the Redbull World Championship

We are pleased to announce that the Championship was formally invited to attend the one-off Red Bull World Drifting Championship and that the invitation was accepted. As a result, two EDC teams have secured a place within the event which takes place in Long Beach, California, USA on November 15th 2008 and will be joined by other drivers from around the world.
The teams and drivers which will be representing EDC are 2008 Champion Ben Broke Smith and 2008 Runner-up Tim Marshall. Ben will be piloting his Driftworks backed Toyota Chaser with Tim Marshall in the Apex Performance V8 Nissan Skyline machine.

Both vehicles their spares and equipment were shipped out of the UK a few weeks ago and are destined to arrive in the USA shortly before the event at which point they will be met with our operational staff and the teams.
On location in the USA, we are pleased to announce that our dear friends and EDC Championship sponsors HKS USA will be providing ground support for our teams in order to help us prepare for the event with both cars routed to HKS for storage prior to the event.

After an incredibly successful season, Driftworks Pro Driver and Sales Manager Ben Broke-Smith recently finished the Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship in first place, with a clear 19point advantage. Once again giving Team Driftworks the title back from 2006, and firmly establishing us as THE team to beat in 2009.

Driving the 560bhp Driftworks Toyota Chaser, Ben lead the championship from round two at Knockhill in Scotland, to the final round in Poland.. With many top drivers and teams nipping at his heels for the lead in the championship, Ben kept a cool head, and the massive Driftworks JZX81 Chaser using the superb Federal tyres remained in the top spot.. At the final round in Poland we brought back the Driftworks Nissan Skyline for Ben to drive, as the Toyota Chaser was outbound for competition in the Red Bull Drift Challenge in the USA..
The Skyline now using our preferred Toyota JZ engine, gave Ben a bit jip to start with by deciding to blow up the weaker Nissan differential on the first run, and taking the clutch out with it.. But with the help of some of our good friends and competitors, he had it up and running again in no time. A real testament to the camaraderie found in the drifting scene. Driftworks Ltd would like to congratulate and thank our good friend, employee, and team member Ben Broke-Smith for his incredible dedication to this season of the European Drift Championship.

Team Orange Dominate Japaneseusedcars.com EDC round 4

The 4th Round of the 2008 Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship took place at Santa Pod raceway on a specially constructed “Street course” The track layout would not be the fastest this season, but was offset by being one of the more technical tracks to be used. Relatively narrow and very unforgiving, this track managed to replicate the streets where drifting was born.

This round saw the return of Team orange from Japan once again bringing their Subaru Impreza drift cars with local support coming from 2007 Time attack champions, Zen Performance. Also new to the championship were New Zealand champion, Adam Richards and BDC wildcard drivers Matt Carter and Stewart Hansford.
Qualification began and once again, Team orange set the standard with Tanaka scoring 97 points out of a possible 100. Kumakubo also set a score of 94 making everyone believe that they would claim the top spots. This was until Phil Morrison of Driftworks appeared and put in a fantastic performance which tied him on points with Kumakubo. In the event of a points tie in qualifying, we look at the next best score which for both drivers was 92 and due to a spin by Kumakubo on one of his runs, gave Morrison 2nd place in qualification. Kumakubo would have to settle for 3rd. Phil Morrison drew Nobushige Kumakubo in the first round for the second event in a row. Morrison was starting to get to grips with his new Driftworks S15 Silvia but Kumakubo was right up inside his rear bumper when leading and was unable to keep up with Kuma’s speed when following giving a small but significant advantage and win to Kumakubo.
Kazuhiro Tanaka faced Adam Richards in the next battle and it was Tanaka to lead in the first run. Richards did everything he could to try and keep up with Tanaka but was struggling. He eventually had to straighten the car through the hairpin giving Tanaka the win after the second run was declared even.

The Final was an all Orange affair with both Kumakubo and Tanaka being faultless all day. Kumakubo normally has the upper hand when it comes to battles between these two drivers in Japan, but Tanaka was on form and looked ready to take the win. With both drivers using Subaru Imprezas with similar engine specifications and on the same Yokohama Advan Neova tyres, this would be purely a battle of driver skill between the two. The first run saw Tanaka dive down the inside of Kumakubo and stay there giving him the advantage in the first run. Kumakubo answered back with a similar run getting his bumper right onto the door of Tanaka. It was clear that this one would have to go one more time. Into the third run and as they made their high speed transition from right to left, Kumakubo unable to countersteer the car quick enough spun his car with Tanaka narrowly missing the car in front but continuing his drift and took a 10-0 advantage. This contest was Tanaka’s for the taking. The fourth run saw Kumakubo applying pressure from behind as per the second run and Tanaka tried to respond by pulling away. In his attempt to get away, Tanaka applies a little too much throttle and his Impreza is pointing in very much the wrong direction. It was as if déjà vu had occurred with Tanaka spinning in the same place that Kumakubo had in the previous run. With a 10-0 advantage going the other way, another sudden death was called. Tanaka chasing couldn’t get in on Kumakubo who was gradually increasing pace and so would have to settle for a 5-5 score. Kumakubo continued his ways by getting right in on Tanaka at the hairpin giving him a small advantage to settle the match.Japaneseusedcars.com sponsored driver Ben Broke-Smith above still leads the championship after round 4

D1NZ Champion Adam Richards enters The Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship

Former D1NZ champion Adam Richards made his debut in the Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship for round 4 held at Santapod Raceway in England on the 12th July 08.
Japaneseusedcars.com worked with Adam to assist him to gain entry to the #1 European drift competition and being a former D1 Champion he was accepted, we then offered all the help we could to Adam to get him and his car over to England. Adam arrived at the end of May but had to wait for his car to arrive from the USA where it had been since the D1 All Stars event at the end of 2007. His car finally arrived a few days before the Santapod event and Adam set about preparing the Cefiro for round 4.

Adam drove his RB26 GT-R powered Cefiro well and qualified in the top 4 of the unseeded drivers, not a bad effort considering he hadn't driven for 8 months but in the first round of Tsushio battles he came up against Team Orange driver Kazuhiro Tanaka and unfortunately although putting in a good fight was beaten by the Japanese driver. We look forward to seeing Adam complete the remaining rounds of the EDC and wish him well as he takes on the best drifters in Europe.

D1 Team Orange compete in the Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship
Our good friends and the worlds number 1 and Japan's top D1 Drift Team Team Orange, Nobushige Kumakubo & Kazuhiro Tanaka enter the Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship and competed in the 3rd round held at Silverstone circuit in England on June 1st 2008.
As practice began, it was clear that Team Orange wasn’t here to mess about. They set the standard in terms of entry speed and clean “snappy” initiations. The local guys were putting up a good fight however and the gap that existed a couple years ago was certainly smaller this time around.
Into qualifying and once again the Japanese driver showed dominance by putting up the first ever 100 point qualifying run in EDC history. Nobushige Kumakubo put in a flawless performance showing everyone why he was crowned Japanese champion of 2006. Kazuhiro Tanaka placed 2nd with a score of 94.
Phil Morrison in the Driftworks S15 Silvia would face Nobushige Kumakubo in the Team Orange Impreza.
The final pairing couldn’t have been more appropriate if it had been scripted. Having beaten off the 2006 GB champ, the best of Northern Ireland and Poland, Kumakubo would face the 2007 EDC champ, Brett Castle in the Final.
A truly fantastic show by all drivers involved and a testament to the level that the European drifters have reached over the last 2 years. Kumakubo and Team Orange will be back for the next round to get their revenge at Santa Pod. Also a new man will step up from a different corner of the globe in the form of New Zealand champion Adam Richards. Who will prevail? The only way to find out is to be there, Santa Pod Raceway, July 12th 2007 with the added bonus of a twin drift competition on the 13th where once again Team Orange will be making an appearance doing what they do best.

D1GP 2006 Champion Nobushige Kumakubo to compete in the Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship

We are pleased to announce that we have secured the first Japanese professional Drift driver to join the Japaneseusedcars.com Championship and make history as the first Championship in Europe to do so.
World famous and D1GP 2006 Champion Nobushige Kumakubo has confirmed he will contest the Championship this year using his 430bhp RWD Subaru Impreza STI (GDB model).
Kumakubo is famed for his amazing high speed car control and particularly his talent in twin drift battles where his brave yet precise driving techniques are nothing short of inspiring. As a top star of Japanese D1 events as well as events in the USA, along with various appearances at shows in Europe under his belt in more recent times - his entry into Japaneseusedcars.com European Drift Championship marks an important chapter in Drifting history.

His entry into the JapaneseUsedCars.com European Drift Championship is certain to be news the world over as his first commitment to a Championship outside of D1 - which he will also continue with in 2008.

Formula D 2007 rookie of the year Darren McNamara has re-signed with Japaneseusedcars.com for the 2008 season. Darren will campaign 3 cars in 2008, his famed SR20 AE86 will be campaigned in the Prodrift Europe series while Darren will drive his white AE86 in the Prodrift Ireland series. In the Formula D series held in the USA Darren will drive a totally new car with Team Falken.
